بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
The incontestable (event).

الْحَاقَّةُ
What an incontestable (event)!

مَا الْحَاقَّةُ
It is truly incontestable.
It is truly incontestable.
وَمَا أَدْرَكَ مَا الْحَاقَّةُ
Thamoud and `Ãd disbelieved in the Shocker.

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌ بِالْقَارِعَةِ
As for Thamoud, they were annihilated by the devastating (quake).

فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِالطَّاغِيَةِ
As for `Ãd, they were annihilated by a persistent, violent storm.

وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ
He unleashed it upon them for seven nights and eight days, violently. You could see the people tossed around like decayed palm trunks.

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى الْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَى كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ

فَهَلْ تَرَى لَهُمْ مِنْ بَاقِيَةٍ
Pharaoh, others before him, and the sinners (of Sodom) were wicked.

وَجَاءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَنْ قَبْلَهُ وَالْمُؤْتَفِكَتُ بِالْخَاطِئَةِ
They disobeyed the messenger of their Lord. Consequently, He requited them a devastating requital.

فَعَصَوْا رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَابِيَةً
The flood was devastating, so we carried you on the floating (ark).

إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا الْمَاءُ حَمَلْنَكُمْ فِي الْجَارِيَةِ
We rendered it a lesson for you, that any listening ear may understand.

لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَا أُذُنٌ وَعِيَةٌ

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي الصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَحِدَةٌ
The earth and the mountains will be carried off and crushed; utterly crushed.

وَحُمِلَتْ الْأَرْضُ وَالْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَحِدَةً
That is the day when the inevitable event will come to pass.

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتْ الْوَاقِعَةُ
The heaven will crack, and fall apart.

وَانشَقَّتْ السَّمَاءُ فَهِيَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ
The Believers
The angels will be all around, and Your Lord's dominion will then encompass eight (universes).*

وَالْمَلَكُ عَلَى أَرْجَائِهَا وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَنِيَةٌ
On that day, you will be exposed, nothing of you can be hidden.
On that Day, you will be exposed; no secret of yours can be hidden.
يَوْمَئِذٍ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَى مِنْكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ
The Believers
As for the one who receives his record with his right hand, he will say, "Come read my record.

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَبَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ فَيَقُولُ هَاؤُمْ اقْرَءُوا كِتَبِيَهْ
"I did believe that I was going to be held accountable."

إِنِّي ظَنَنتُ أَنِّي مُلَقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ
He has deserved a happy life.

فَهُوَ فِي عِيشَةٍ رَاضِيَةٍ
In an exalted Paradise.

فِي جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ
Its fruits are within reach.
Its fruits are within reach.
قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٌ
Eat and drink happily in return for your works in days past.

كُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا هَنِيءا بِمَا أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِي الْأَيَّامِ الْخَالِيَةِ

As for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say, "Oh, I wish I never received my record.

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِيَ كِتَبَهُ بِشِمَالِهِ فَيَقُولُ يَلَيْتَنِي لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَبِيَهْ
"I wish I never knew my account.
"I wish I never knew my account.
وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ
"I wish my death was eternal.
"I wish my death was eternal.
يَلَيْتَهَا كَانَتْ الْقَاضِيَةَ
"My money cannot help me.
"My money cannot help me.
مَا أَغْنَى عَنِّي مَالِيَهْ
"All my power is gone."
"All my power is gone."
هَلَكَ عَنِّي سُلْطَنِيَهْ
Take him and shackle him.

خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ
Burn him in Hell.

ثُمَّ الْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ
In a chain that is seventy arms long, tie him up.

ثُمَّ فِي سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًا فَاسْلُكُوهُ
For he did not believe in GOD, Most Great.

إِنَّهُ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ
Nor did he advocate the feeding of the poor.
Nor did he advocate the feeding of the poor.
وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَى طَعَامِ الْمِسْكِينِ
Consequently, he has no friend here.

فَلَيْسَ لَهُ الْيَوْمَ هَهُنَا حَمِيمٌ
Nor any food, except the bitter variety.

وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍ
Food for the sinners.
Food for the sinners.
لَا يَأْكُلُهُ إِلَّا الْخَطِءونَ
I swear by what you see.
I swear by what you see.
فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ
And what you do not see.
And what you do not see.
وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ
This is the utterance of an honorable messenger.
This is the utterance of an honorable messenger.
إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ
Not the utterance of a poet; rarely do you believe.
Not the utterance of a poet; rarely do you believe.
وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍ قَلِيلًا مَا تُؤْمِنُونَ
Nor the utterance of a soothsayer; rarely do you take heed.
Nor the utterance of a soothsayer; rarely do you take heed.
وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍ قَلِيلًا مَا تَذَكَّرُونَ
A revelation from the Lord of the universe.

تَنزِيلٌ مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَلَمِينَ

وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ الْأَقَاوِيلِ
We would have punished him.

لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِالْيَمِينِ
We would have stopped the revelations to him.

ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ الْوَتِينَ
None of you could have helped him.

فَمَا مِنْكُمْ مِنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَجِزِينَ
This is a reminder for the righteous.

وَإِنَّهُ لَتَذْكِرَةٌ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
We know; some of you are rejectors.

وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنْكُمْ مُكَذِّبِينَ
It is but sorrow for the disbelievers.
It is but sorrow for the disbelievers.
وَإِنَّهُ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى الْكَفِرِينَ
It is the absolute truth.
It is the absolute truth.
وَإِنَّهُ لَحَقُّ الْيَقِينِ
Therefore, you shall glorify the name of your Lord, Most Great.

فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ
