وَمَا يَأْتِيهِمْ مِنْ ذِكْرٍ مِنْ الرَّحْمَنِ مُحْدَثٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا عَنْهُ مُعْرِضِينَ

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا إِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَمْ أَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِنْ كُلِّ زَوْجٍ كَرِيمٍ

Recall that your Lord called Moses: "Go to the transgressing people.

وَإِذْ نَادَى رَبُّكَ مُوسَى أَنْ ائْتِ الْقَوْمَ الظَّلِمِينَ
"Pharaoh's people; perhaps they reform."

قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ أَلَا يَتَّقُونَ
He said, "My Lord, I fear lest they disbelieve me.

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يُكَذِّبُون
"I may lose my temper. My tongue gets tied; send for my brother Aaron.

وَيَضِيقُ صَدْرِي وَلَا يَنْطَلِقُ لِسَانِي فَأَرْسِلْ إِلَى هَرُونَ

وَلَهُمْ عَلَيَّ ذَنْبٌ فَأَخَافُ أَنْ يَقْتُلُون
He said, "No, (they will not). Go with My proofs. We will be with you, listening.

قَالَ كَلَّا فَاذْهَبَا بِءايَتِنَا إِنَّا مَعَكُمْ مُسْتَمِعُونَ

فَأْتِيَا فِرْعَوْنَ فَقُولَا إِنَّا رَسُولُ رَبِّ الْعَلَمِينَ

أَنْ أَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِي إِسْرَءيلَ
He said, "Did we not raise you from infancy, and you spent many years with us?

قَالَ أَلَمْ نُرَبِّكَ فِينَا وَلِيدًا وَلَبِثْتَ فِينَا مِنْ عُمُرِكَ سِنِينَ

وَفَعَلْتَ فَعْلَتَكَ الَّتِي فَعَلْتَ وَأَنْتَ مِنْ الْكَفِرِينَ

قَالَ فَعَلْتُهَا إِذًا وَأَنَا مِنْ الضَّالِّينَ
"Then I fled, when I feared you, and my Lord endowed me with wisdom and made me one of the messengers.

فَفَرَرْتُ مِنْكُمْ لَمَّا خِفْتُكُمْ فَوَهَبَ لِي رَبِّي حُكْمًا وَجَعَلَنِي مِنْ الْمُرْسَلِينَ
"You are boasting that you did me a favor, while enslaving the Children of Israel!"

وَتِلْكَ نِعْمَةٌ تَمُنُّهَا عَلَيَّ أَنْ عَبَّدْتَ بَنِي إِسْرَءيلَ

قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَا رَبُّ الْعَلَمِينَ

He said, "The Lord of the east and the west, and everything between them, if you understand."

قَالَ رَبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ
He said, "If you accept any god, other than me, I will throw you in the prison."

قَالَ لَئِنْ اتَّخَذْتَ إِلَهًَا غَيْرِي لَأَجْعَلَنَّكَ مِنْ الْمَسْجُونِينَ

قَالَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكَ بِشَيْءٍ مُبِينٍ

يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُخْرِجَكُمْ مِنْ أَرْضِكُمْ بِسِحْرِهِ فمَاذَا تَأْمُرُونَ

قَالُوا أَرْجِهِ وَأَخَاهُ وَابْعَثْ فِي الْمَدَائِنِ حَشِرِينَ

يَأْتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِيمٍ
The magicians were gathered at the appointed time, on the appointed day.

فَجُمِعَ السَّحَرَةُ لِمِيقَتِ يَوْمٍ مَعْلُومٍ
The people were told: "Come one and all; let us gather together here.

لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ السَّحَرَةَ إِنْ كَانُوا هُمْ الْغَلِبِينَ

He said, "Yes indeed; you will even be close to me."

قَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَمِنْ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ

قَالَ لَهُمْ مُوسَى أَلْقُوا مَا أَنْتُمْ مُلْقُونَ
They threw their ropes and sticks, and said, "By Pharaoh's majesty, we will be the victors."

He said, "Did you believe with him before I give you permission? He must be your teacher, who taught you magic. You will surely find out. I will cut your hands and feet on alternate sides. I will crucify you all."

قَالَ ءامَنْتُمْ لَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ ءاذَنَ لَكُمْ إِنَّهُ لَكَبِيرُكُمْ الَّذِي عَلَّمَكُمْ السِّحْرَ فَلَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُمْ مِنْ خِلَفٍ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ
They said, "This will not change our decision; to our Lord we will return.

قَالُوا لَا ضَيْرَ إِنَّا إِلَى رَبِّنَا مُنْقَلِبُونَ
"We hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, especially that we are the first believers."

إِنَّا نَطْمَعُ أَنْ يَغْفِرَ لَنَا رَبُّنَا خَطَيَنَا أَنْ كُنَّا أَوَّلَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
We inspired Moses: "Travel with My servants; you will be pursued."

وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى مُوسَى أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِي إِنَّكُمْ مُتَّبَعُونَ

فَأَرْسَلَ فِرْعَوْنُ فِي الْمَدَائِنِ حَشِرِينَ
(Proclaiming,) "This is a small gang.

"They are now opposing us.

وَإِنَّهُمْ لَنَا لَغَائِظُونَ

وَإِنَّا لَجَمِيعٌ حَذِرُونَ

قَالَ كَلَّا إِنَّ مَعِي رَبِّي سَيَهْدِين

They said, "We worship statues; we are totally devoted to them."

قَالُوا نَعْبُدُ أَصْنَامًا فَنَظَلُّ لَهَا عَكِفِينَ
He said, "Can they hear you when you implore?

قَالَ هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ إِذْ تَدْعُونَ
"Can they benefit you, or harm you?"
“Can they benefit you, or harm you?”
أَوْ يَنْفَعُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَضُرُّونَ
They said, "No; but we found our parents doing this."

قَالُوا بَلْ وَجَدْنَا ءابَاءَنَا كَذَلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ
He said, "Do you see these idols that you worship.

قَالَ أَفَرَءيْتُمْ مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ
"You and your ancestors.
“You and your ancestors.
أَنْتُمْ وَءابَاؤُكُمْ الْأَقْدَمُونَ
"I am against them, for I am devoted only to the Lord of the universe.
“I am against them, for I am devoted only to the Lord of the universe.
فَإِنَّهُمْ عَدُوٌّ لِي إِلَّا رَبَّ الْعَلَمِينَ
"The One who created me, and guided me.

الَّذِي خَلَقَنِي فَهُوَ يَهْدِين
"The One who feeds me and waters me.
“The One who feeds me and waters me.
وَالَّذِي هُوَ يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِين
"And when I get sick, He heals me.
“And when I get sick, He heals me.
وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِين
"The One who puts me to death, then brings me back to life.

وَالَّذِي يُمِيتُنِي ثُمَّ يُحْيِينِ
"The One who hopefully will forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment.
“The One who hopefully will forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment.
وَالَّذِي أَطْمَعُ أَنْ يَغْفِرَ لِي خَطِيءتِي يَوْمَ الدِّينِ
"My Lord, grant me wisdom, and include me with the righteous.
“My Lord, grant me wisdom, and include me with the righteous.
رَبِّ هَبْ لِي حُكْمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّلِحِينَ
"Let the example I set for the future generations be a good one.
“Let the example I set for the future generations be a good one.
وَاجْعَلْ لِي لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ فِي الْاءخِرِينَ
"Make me one of the inheritors of the blissful Paradise.
“Make me one of the inheritors of the blissful Paradise.
وَاجْعَلْنِي مِنْ وَرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ النَّعِيمِ
"And forgive my father, for he has gone astray.
“And forgive my father, for he has gone astray.
وَاغْفِرْ لِأَبِي إِنَّهُ كَانَ مِنْ الضَّالِّينَ
"And do not forsake me on the Day of Resurrection."

وَلَا تُخْزِنِي يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ
That is the day when neither money, nor children, can help.
That is the Day when neither money, nor children, can help.
يَوْمَ لَا يَنْفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ
Only those who come to GOD with their whole heart (will be saved).

إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى اللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ
Paradise will be presented to the righteous.

وَأُزْلِفَتْ الْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ
Hell will be set up for the strayers.

وَبُرِّزَتْ الْجَحِيمُ لِلْغَاوِينَ

They will be asked, "Where are the idols you had worshiped

وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنْتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ
"beside GOD? Can they help you now? Can they help themselves?"

مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ هَلْ يَنْصُرُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَنْتَصِرُونَ
They will be thrown therein, together with the strayers.

فَكُبْكِبُوا فِيهَا هُمْ وَالْغَاوُنَ
And all of Satan's soldiers.

وَجُنُودُ إِبْلِيسَ أَجْمَعُونَ
They will say as they feud therein,

قَالُوا وَهُمْ فِيهَا يَخْتَصِمُونَ
"By GOD, we were far astray.

تَاللَّهِ إِنْ كُنَّا لَفِي ضَلَلٍ مُبِينٍ
"How could we set you up to rank with the Lord of the universe?

إِذْ نُسَوِّيكُمْ بِرَبِّ الْعَلَمِينَ
"Those who misled us were wicked.
“Those who misled us were wicked.
وَمَا أَضَلَّنَا إِلَّا الْمُجْرِمُونَ
"Now we have no intercessors.
“Now we have no intercessors.
فَمَا لَنَا مِنْ شَفِعِينَ

"Nor a single close friend.

وَلَا صَدِيقٍ حَمِيمٍ
"If only we could get another chance, we would then believe."

فَلَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةً فَنَكُونَ مِنْ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

"I am an honest messenger to you.

"You shall reverence GOD and obey me.

فَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُون
"I do not ask you for any wage. My wage comes from the Lord of the universe.

Exempted are those who believe, lead a righteous life, commemorate GOD frequently, and stand up for their rights. Surely, the transgressors will find out what their ultimate destiny is.
Exempted are those who believe, lead a righteous life, commemorate GOD frequently, and stand up for their rights when an injustice is committed against them. Surely, the transgressors will find out what their ultimate destiny is.
إِلَّا الَّذِينَ ءامَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّلِحَتِ وَذَكَرُوا اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَانتَصَرُوا مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا ظُلِمُوا وَسَيَعْلَمُ الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا أَيَّ مُنقَلَبٍ يَنقَلِبُونَ
